Thanasimus undulatus, a junior synonym of Thanasimus undatulus (Say, 1835)

Thanasimus undatulus (note spelling) was first described by Thomas Say in 1835 as Clerus undatulus. In 1920, the species was placed in the genus Thanasimus by Leng, who listed it as Thanasimus undulatus (note spelling). In 1923, Van Dyke points out the error writing "Thanasimus undatulus Say (not undulatus Say)." This error, however, persisted and was used by Chamberlin in 1939 and subsequently by Papp in 1960. Hardwood and Rudinsky chronicled this error in 1966, but the heterochresonym still remains widely used in the literature. The valid name for this species is Thanasimus undatulus (Say, 1835).
